Opening Update, R&P Coffee Co.

Last weekend we had the privilege to be a part of the Shannock Valley Festival for the first time! And it was great! In fact, we really feel like we fulfilled our mission. We spent time IN the community WITH community. The number of meaningful conversations we had are too many to count on one hand (or two!). And we left there genuinely feeling like we had impacted lives for the better.

How does that happen selling coffee at a festival? Well, let me tell you:

  1. We made people smile. And that matters!

  2. While preparing pour over coffee (a 5ish minute process), we had the opportunity to truly connect with people and learn more about our community.

  3. We sat and talked, because that’s what a cup of coffee (or tea) leads to - conversation. I learned about people’s families, about heartache and loss, challenges overcome, struggles still being fought, and hopes for the future. And through that - we had the chance to encourage, instill hope, and lend a listening ear.

Authentic community happened last weekend and it was a perfect snapshot of what the future vision can be! (Sorry we didn’t get pictures - we were too busy talking…)...

WELCOME

Our Vision: To see communities turned upside down through the next step of obedience.

Service is at 10:30 every Sunday – we would love for you to join us!

We are so glad you stopped by!  In today’s world “church” is many things.  Our aim is to be the Church as Christ intended: imperfect people loving imperfect people.  We want to welcome those who enter our doors, for the first time or for the 100th time, to feel accepted and loved.  We want to reach out and make a difference in our community.  We want to do life together as a family – working through any difficulties that may arise, being an example of what love really is.  And we want you to be a part of that!

Take some time to look around.  Please make sure to contact us for any questions – we will be happy to answer.

The How, R&P Coffee Co.

Restoration & Placemaking

By restoring community and fostering a place for authentic relationship to happen, we can increase social connections, improve health & economy, decrease drug & suicide rates, and more!  Even before coffee, we are doing our best to make our community a better place to live, work, and play.  If there is a need in the community, we want to make a difference!

Why Coffee?

Coffee shops provide the informal, neutral space, needed for authentic relationships to naturally thrive.  You're primarily there for conversation, you can become a regular, there's no real structure or time constraints to what is happening... A local coffee shop becomes the living room of the community as authentic relationships begin, grow, and thrive. We are doing that today!

More than Coffee

The coffeehouse is designed to attract a diverse range of individuals with events, classes, & activities for all ages.  Any profit?  Goes right back into the community.  We want to support local business, restore broken spaces, and bring the community together.  Ultimately, restoration & placemaking means serving - serving coffee and serving you.  If there's a need in the community, we want to meet it.

At Dayton First Church of God, we have a “Come as You Are” attitude. No expectations and no requirements for stepping through the front door. Each week we have greeters at both entrances. If you have any questions or need any help, let them know and they will be happy to assist you.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What should I wear?  Whatever you are comfortable in.  Casual or dressy – there is usually a mix!

- What will the music be like?  This is also usually a mix.  We favor contemporary music but also throw in traditional hymns to celebrate our history and where we came from.

- Is there anything for my kids? Yes! We start our worship service with everyone together so that kids can learn and grow as we worship together.  After singing, prayer, and our offering time, the pastor will read a short Bible story just for the kids. They are then dismissed for class (3 years old – 5th grade) for the remainder of service.  More about those classes can be found here. If you have a child under the age of 3, we LOVE for them to be in service.  We understand that infants and young toddlers will make noise, cry, move around, and more and that’s okay! We don’t mind at all. Jesus said to let the little children come and we wholeheartedly embrace that.

- How long is the service? Our service lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
